Hoe Chinese Medicine Treats Diseases

Chinese medicine, including acupuncture and herbal medicine, has treated various diseases for thousands of years. Just about every disease that can be diagnosed by modern medicine has been treated or managed in some way with Chinese medicine, including pain conditions, autoimmune disorders, and cancers. Chinese medicine treatment isn’t like conventional medicine that replaces the function of damaged cells, but it recognizes and recovers a patient’s normal state.

The human body has 12 cranial nerves, which control whole body function. In recent years, scientists thought acupuncture treatment—inserting a needle in a point of the body touching nerve endings—was important for stimulating signals that meet motor functions.

Herbal medicine is different, as it uses a biochemical way of mediating the internal environment (inflammation, metabolics, and damaged cells such as fat cells, swollen cells, and apoptosis). Therefore, acupuncture and herbal medicine belong to the natural medical field, as their treatment is to regenerate new cells to replace the damaged ones.

In clinics, patients may be diagnosed with the same conditions in both Chinese and Western medicine, but with different pathologic states and different cellular patterns. The treatment of Chinese medicine will be different because the treatment focuses on fixing the damaged cells and the symptoms.

For example, two patients may be diagnosed with psoriasis, but the damaged skin condition is different for each. One patient has skin dryness and ecdysis, while the other one has pustular skin. In Western medicine, both patients would be treated with steroids. However, Chinese treatment would differ, as the symptoms and signs indicate the internal environment and the pathologic cellular state are different. All treatment plans are based on the pathologic state that the patient presents.

With hypertension symptoms (high cholesterol), conventional medicine treatment would use a diuretic or beta blocker, but this does not help the cause of those symptoms. Patients may need to take these medications for the rest of their lives, and this does not allow the condition to heal, and side effects may show up later. Natural medicine would focus on the cause of hypertension and attempt for a permanent heal.

Chinese medical practitioners usually follow the patient’s symptoms. They check the tongue and pulse to determine the diagnosis under Chinese medical knowledge, attempting to indicate abnormal internal environment and cellular state.
